Tortola Pier Park
Orlando, FL- IDEA Inc. (International Design and Entertainment Associates)
IDEA Orlando and IDEA BVI have recently completed Architectural and Engineering design services for the Tortola Pier Park project in Road Town, Tortola British Virgin Islands. The works under contract with the British Virgin Islands Ports Authority (BVIPA) include a wide range of creative design and planning services directed by Hugh Darley, the President and Executive Producer of IDEA, who acts as the project Design Director. IDEA assembled a team of professional services firms which includes RDP Architects of the BVI, Harris Engineering of Orlando Florida, VHB Orlando Florida, and EXP also of Orlando. This cruise port project has been under development for the past two years and involved discussions with major cruise lines as a strategic priority berth in the Eastern Caribbean. Disney Cruise Lines and Norwegian Cruise lines signed priority berthing agreements with the BVIPA in January 2014.
Ground breaking for the project was held May 8th, 2014, in Road Town with a Phase I completion date announced for January 2015 and the remaining portion of the project open by April 2015.
The IDEA created Destination Cruise Port project includes a marine scope of work that strengthens, widens, and lengthens the pier to accommodate the newer class of cruise ships which carry 4,000 plus passengers. The projects landside development consists of approximately 60,000 sq/ft of retail mixed use space designed by IDEA's project designer Robert Coles in IDEA's London offices and Landscape and Planning designs directed by Jackie Flumerfelt IDEA's Vision Planner in the Orlando studio office. The project is seen as a new shift in the development of Cruise Ports which are privately funded and or part of Public Private Partnerships (PPP) with local governments throughout the Caribbean.
